When we identify a leader to integrate into a business, we offer a salaried leadership role with a unique equity pathway. Every Genshare leader receives an initial equity grant of up to 15%, vesting between 12 and 24 months.
Building equity over time
But how is this different to a traditional startup equity model? It’s fully funded by a non-recourse loan, meaning Genshare leaders don’t need to invest any of their own capital upfront. And Genshare only acquires businesses with proven track records, which means incoming leaders are not having to build a company from scratch. Rather, they take the mantle of a business with a strong customer base, proven suppliers, and established brand equity.

We believe leaders should be rewarded for the value they create for a business. Our package rewards leaders not only for the time they put in, but also their role in driving business success.
We encourage and empower all Genshare business leaders to grow their ownership stake over time. Through dividend reinvestment and share buybacks, leaders can increase their equity over time, realising up to 51% ownership. With this model, leaders aren’t merely shaping the business, they also benefit from its long-term success.
Here’s an example of the value leaders can build over a five-year trajectory in a ‘typical’ Genshare business*:
Trajectory at 5 years in business with EBITDA of ~$900,000:
- Salary: competitive market salary (subject to experience/industry)
- Dividends paid over 5 years:
~ $465,000 paid in total - ~ $140,000 reinvested in share purchases (30% at discretion of new owner)
- ~ $325,000 paid in cash
- Net of initial non-recourse loan: ~ $504,000
- 30% equity ownership
- Net Equity value + dividends value = ~$830,000
